30th Anniversary Event

The event was held on 23 October at the Little Haven Hotel, South Shields. Program

The Vice Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland, Stuart Birkett joined members from Northumbria Region u3a to celebrate their 30th anniversary at the Little Haven Hotel, South Shields. He was greeted by the host Cecilia Coulson, Chair of Northumbria Region u3a and Mo Brown the previous Chair. Representatives from twenty seven u3as joined in the celebrations.

Iain Cassidy, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Third Age Trust travelled from the south of the UK to also join in the celebrations. This was Iain’s first official appointment since taking up office at the Third Age Trust’s AGM in the middle of October 2024.

Northumbria Region u3a held their first meeting at Redhills Hotel, Durham in January 1994. The Chair was John Lloyd of Wearside u3a. Originally only six u3as, which were in their infancy, came together to support each other. They were Wearside, Durham, Ponteland, Stockton, Darlington and Tynedale. Now there are 47 u3as as members of Northumbria Region u3a from Berwick to Guisborough and many in between.
To round off the celebrations a Geordie themed session was performed by the Whistle Testers, one of the members being from Derwentside u3a.
